March is Frozen Food Month!

Although the weather will (hopefully) heat up outside, March is Frozen Food Month. We love to celebrate this month-long frozen holiday at Tony’s with our wide selection of frozen food.

But what’s the history of frozen food? Well for many of us, frozen food has been a staple in our households for quick, easy-to-make meals. Frozen food has always existed in climates that were cold enough to actually freeze the food. But the method that we are familiar with today is accredited to Clarence Birdseye back in 1924. He developed this “quick freeze” method when watching fish be “instantly frozen” as they were pulled out of the water in Canada. As he later observed, the taste and structure of the fish were the same months after.

And so the frozen food craze was born. Now there is a wide variety of frozen products that go beyond just freezing fish! From ice cream to pasta, pizza and even pre-packaged meals, frozen food has made a lasting impression on our eating habits.

Of course, we also developed a very special Frozen Food Month Contest to celebrate. . . Win Ice Cream for a Year! Enter to win Ice Cream for a year from our friends at Turkey Hill. We will randomly select a winner from each Tony’s Fresh Market location at the end of March. That means 15 total winners!

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

Last but not least, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, March 17th. Of course, you’ll find all the fixings for corned beef, soda bread, and potatoes inside your Tony’s Fresh Market.

But we also wanted to share this Easy Irish Soda Bread recipe from Inspiring Kitchen. Make your own Irish Soda Bread to celebrate this holiday. Of course, spread butter and Tony’s honey on top. Delicious!
