Summer Italian Wines

Summer is here and we are ready to celebrate in the sun. With all the cooking and grilling on the calendar, we also wanted to put together a fantastic wine list for all your summer favorites. These summer Italian wines are broken down by region, taste, and pairings.

Of course, you’ll see a variety of red wines on this list that pair deliciously with grilled red meats. We’ve also made sure to include some Italian white wines and sparkling wines that are a must-try this summer!

Antonino’s Zinfandel Primitivo IGT

With an intense ruby red color, it’s a no-brainer to pair this Zinfandel with a grilled steak or an aged cheese. Upon first smell of the wine, you will notice an aroma of red berries. The wine taste on a whole is very velvety and balanced. The wine is produced in the area of Puglia.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Amerigo Vespucci

The grapes in this intensely red wine are 100% Montepulciano. With a vibrant red/purple color, there is a bouquet of plum jam, marasca cherry, and wild berries on the nose. This truly Italian wine pairs wonderfully with powerful cheese, cured meats, and bitter chocolates in the summertime. If you’re planning to grill a steak this summer, then this is the perfect wine to pair it with.

Contri Moscato Rosato Spumante Primore

Light in color and sweet in flavor, this aromatic Moscato is an excellent choice for a summer drink. Ideally pair it with a light dessert, fresh pastries, or fruit. You can also use this delicious Moscato in preparing fruit cocktails to serve poolside.

Negroamaro Passito Salento IGT Conte di Campiano

Hailing from Puglia, Italy, this southern Italian red wine is smooth, but full-bodied at the same time. The color is deep purple and has notes of fruity vanilla chocolate. Pair it will a summer feta tomato pasta for a perfect taste!

Piemonte DOC Rosso Castelvecchio

Mixing a variety of grapes like Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera, this Italian wine features an intense red color with violet reflections. The taste is ample and sweet. For food pairings, choose grilled steak or fresh cheese like mozzarella.

Pinot Noir Trevenezie IGT Rimola

Unlike a few of the wines on this list, this Italian wine comes from Northern Italy in Veneto. The color is red, but not overly pronounced and is generally bright. On the nose, you will get red berries, currant, blackberry, and raspberry. With a very fresh taste, the wine is quite versatile to make pairings. It’s an excellent summer wine to pair with fish fillets and chicken kabobs.

Cabert Prosecco DOC Extra Dry

Fine and delicate with a hint of apples, this fresh and fruity prosecco is an outstanding summer drink. Cabert Prosecco is produced in the region of Friuli Venezia Guilia. The color is straw yellow with lively greenish reflections. You can easily pair this with light dishes or a fruit dessert.

Vermentino Salento IGP Saraceno Conti Zecca

As one of the only white (non-sparkling) Italian wines on our list, it’s easy to see why we would pick this one for summer. The taste is warm, soft, and savory with a delicious almond after-taste. It’s best paired with shellfish and summer salads.
